986 Porsche Boxster 2.7L Oil Change Guide
For URO Parts aftermarket drain bolt only. Covers tools, parts, torque specs, and the full procedure from drain to final check.
Vehicle: 2002 Porsche Boxster (986)
Tools
Required- 8mm (or 5/16") hex bit socket (for drain plug)
- Torque wrench (ft-lbs)
- Socket wrench + extensions
- 74mm oil filter cap wrench or socket
- Large oil drain pan (9+ qt capacity)
- Funnel + gloves + rags
Procedure
18 steps-
1Warm up engine for 2 minutes max Loosens the oil slightly for a cleaner drain.

2Park on flat surface or raise rear on jack stands Chock front wheels before going under the car.

3Remove rear trunk carpet + oil filler cap Removing the filler cap helps oil drain faster.

4Place oil pan under drain plug

5Remove drain plug with 8mm hex bit Let oil drain fully, 10-15 minutes.

6Remove oil filter housing Use 74mm cap wrench or socket.

7Swap in new HU719/5X filter + O-ring

8Optional: Pre-fill filter housing halfway with new oil

9Reinstall filter housing Torque to 19 ft-lbs.

10Install new crush washer on drain plug Torque to 19 ft-lbs.

11Fill with 7.5 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40
-
12Start engine, idle for 2 minutes, then shut off

13Wait 5-10 minutes Check dipstick and onboard oil level.

14Top off in 0.25-0.5 qt increments until full Expect 8.5-8.75 qts total.

15Optional: Add LIQUI MOLY MoS2 Half bottle if previously used.

16Also optional: Add LIQUI MOLY Cera Tec 20002

17Drive for at least 30 minutes Circulates oil and additive throughout the engine.

18Check for leaks, re-check oil level after cooldown
Important Notes
Read before starting
Torque specs are critical. Do not overtighten the drain plug or filter
housing. Both use 19 ft-lbs.
Keep oil level near the top of the dipstick range but never overfill.
Track your mileage and plan the next oil change accordingly.
